Our Story
Before
In 2012, Keenan Thompson (then known as funkystudios online) created a server called MCZone, which was originally a Minecraft server that started with automated matches of Minecraft PvP gamemodes. As hundreds of players tuned in to play, the server grew; so did the player count. As hundreds became thousands, players from all over the world were logging on concurrently to play a variety of gamemodes- the most notorious ones being Sky Wars, The Walls, Nexus, and of course, Nebula.
MCZone spun off into a larger project called Avicus, which rewrote everything from the ground up and added gamemodes like Control the Hill, Elimination, and more. Over the years, Avicus kept updating and as it grew, more games were added which also pushed the limits of what was possible for map creation.
The core of Nebula stayed the same- rotating gamemodes for everyone to enjoy. However, the meta was changing, and several other servers had been in the market causing oversaturation of similar gametypes as well as other servers focusing on either casual or competitive play. Due to several factors not withstanding the above, The server was closed in 2018 after over 5 years.
After
We want to bring back the spirit of Avicus; that's why we're bringing forward a community revival. Started by ViceWatercolour & alexanderjoe, two long-time staff members of Avicus, Project Nebula aims to provide an authentic, enjoyable experience for everyone new and old.
We would like to thank all of the original staff that made this project, and Avicus itself, possible.
- A special thanks to all of the Directors, Managers, Administrators, Senior Moderators, Moderators, Developers, Junior Developers, Senior Map Developers, Map Developers, Junior Map Developers, Assembly, Social Media Team, Officials, Referees, Marketing Team, Translators, Builders, Open Source Contrbutors, and Community Members over the years. We sure wouldn't be here without you!
